5 tasty talbinah variations: from dates to cold pudding
The same bowl of porridge every day? No need. With the same base you can make talbinah differently every time. Start with our basic recipe and then choose one of these 5 variations.
1. Date and cinnamon
Finely chop 2 or 3 dates and stir them into the porridge in the last minute. Finish with a pinch of cinnamon. The dates make extra sweetener unnecessary.
2. Honey and Sunnah Mix
Sweeten with honey and sprinkle a tablespoon of Sunnah Mix on top. With fig, date, walnut, coconut, raspberry and black seed you get sweet, crunchy and fresh in one spoon. Get them together in the bundle.
3. Figs and walnuts
Top with slices of fresh or dried fig and a handful of roughly chopped walnuts. Lovely in autumn and winter.
4. Cardamom and rose water
A Middle Eastern flavour: cook a crushed cardamom pod with the porridge and add a few drops of rose water at the end. Garnish with chopped pistachio.
5. Cold talbinah pudding
Make the porridge a little thicker than usual, spoon it into glasses and refrigerate overnight. The next day you have a firm pudding. Top with fruit or honey. Ideal for warm days or a quick suhoor.
