What is Talbinah?

Talbinah is a creamy, warm porridge made from barley flour, prepared with milk or water and often sweetened with honey or dates. Barley is one of the oldest grains in the world. The name comes from the Arabic word laban (milk), because the porridge is white and soft, just like milk.

Religious significance

Talbinah is mentioned in the narrations (ahadith). Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) recommended it in times of illness and grief, and narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Talbina gives rest to the heart of the sick person and takes away some of his grief.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
